HOW TO PROMOTE YOUR MUSIC VIA RADIO

How to easily get your music on Radio stations in Nigeria – Airplay, Radio Promotion
http://naijaartiste.net/music/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/2e2843e2ade511d88df42c8a44a73c77_M.jpg
The Nigerian radio industry couldn’t be less friendly
to most independent new artistes. However, that
doesn’t mean there isn’t some significant radio
airplay available to you if you know what you’re
doing. We live in an Era where everyone and their
grandma wants to be heard on radio and frankly
speaking,

if your music is not played on commercial
radio, there’s a limit to your reach and your fan base
will be quite limited.
That said, one major mistake emerging artistes
make is trying to cover all grounds at once on a
limited budget. Except you have Major label money
behind you, getting your music on all Nigerian
Stations and getting everyday airplay is next to
impossible. So what do you do? You plan! Outlined
below is a plan to consider if you have the three
important ingredients necessary for getting your
songs played on radio.
THE MONEY TO FUND THE PROMOTION
Every day I get messages and mails from artistes
begging for radio promotion and when I ask them
what their plan and promo budget is, they become
deaf and dumb! The bitter truth is that in this
industry, Money answereth all things! You need to
get it out of your head that simply walking into a
radio station as an unknown act, dropping your CD
with the librarian or an On Air Personality, will get
your songs played. Don’t be surprised if your CD
ends up being covered up by dust on the shelves or
worse, ends up in the trash!
Before approaching any radio station for airplay, do
your homework. You need to find out the music
format of the radio station and know if your genre
and style blends with it or not! For example, trying
to get airplay on a station that plays only classic
R&B and Jazz, when your style is the typical Naija
Blend of Hip-Hop/Dance is foolishness.
Next is making a list of all the radio stations that
play your kind of music. Then spend time to actually
listen to the shows/programs and select the one
with good listenership and fan base.
Make a note of who the Presenters of those shows
are, listen up for their contacts on the social
networks, eg Twitter handle, Facebook ID etc. it will
also help if you make yourself a regular listener on
their shows, call in whenever you can, join the fan
page etc..what you are doing is creating a familiar
ground for future reference and easy contact.
One important step you should never skip is talking
to other new independent artistes enjoying good
airplay. Find out what their budget was.
At this point, you are armed with the basic
information you need. So the next step is to sit down
and check your bank account. You need to draw up a
financial plan for this. How much will it cost you to
move around (transport fare, or fuel money?) How
much are you willing or can afford to invest in each
station?
THE TIME TO SPEND WORKING ALL THE
STATIONS CONSISTENTLY
you need to draw up a time table for this. You also
need to realize that this is not something to be
rushed. You also need to be consistent with radio
promotion, that’s why you need to draw up a time
table according to your budget.
MATERIAL THAT IS READY FOR NATIONAL
AIRPLAY
So many emerging artistes are guilty of pushing
songs that are not ready for promotion. Before
rushing to waste your hard earned resources, you
need to ensure that the song you want to put on air
deserves to be on air! Have several industry
professionals listen to it and critique it. your
hommies most likely won’t tell you the truth, so
sample the opinions of trusted professionals first.
IMPORTANT RULE BEFORE SECURING ANY
AIRPLAY
If you have NOT made your music available online,
then FORGET about investing the time and money
trying to get airplay. What’s the point? If a station
plays your song and people like your music – but
can’t find it in their favourite online music site – then
they can’t have access to your music. So get your
online promotion in place first!
CONCLUSION
Getting airplay on the top radio stations is not hard as it seems all what you need to do is just to take the right steps and let those that knows more about it help you out.

HOW TO GET PEOPLE TO LISTEN TO YOUR SONGS

How To Get People To Listen To Your Music
http://naijaartiste.net/music/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/black-woman-listening-to-music-and-dancing.jpg
One of the challenges upcoming artiste faces is how
you can get people to listen to your music.
The funny thing is, from an outside point of view,
getting people to listen to your songs doesn’t seem like
that much of a big task. You just make a song, share it
and people will hear it right?NO!
People won’t listen to your music unless you give
them a real reason to!
There’s so much free music out there now,
that people have too much music on there phones/devices. They won’t download or buy your music simply because you’re not yet popular, yet they won’t download/buy it if they’ve never heard of you before. In other words, putting your music on blogs, hulkshare, Soundcloud, Facebook and Twitter won’t by itself make it go viral and have people
listing to you.
So what should you do instead? Well, that’s what I’m
going to share with you today. Here are some steps
formula to getting people to listen to you. If you have
these things in place and market yourself using the
strategies talked about on this site, you’ll give yourself a
much better chance of getting in front of new ears.
Give Something Worth Getting Excited About
One of the biggest things you need to determine when
trying to get people to listen to your music, is whether
or not it’s worth people getting excited about. This can
be hard to tell initially, as it’s your music; of course
you’re going to think it’s worth people listing to!
But be objective for a minute. Ask yourself the
following:
·  Is the recording quality of your songs as good as
the best music out there in your genre (say top
10%)?
·  Are you either giving something that hasn’t been
done before, or using a tried and tested formula to
a high level?
·  Would your lyrics sound inferior when placed on a
track with the top talent in your genre?
·  Is your voice strong enough and of a tone that
people would enjoy?
·  Are your backing tracks you’re singing or rapping
over of a high level?
Ask yourself all of these things and more, comparing your music to others back to back if you need to. I know, this is hard to do. It’s hard to judge yourself as a musician, but it’s a skill you need to learn. Record yourself, both your vocals and your movements via video. Learn your bad habits, and the things which look and sound unprofessional. Look at what other people who you admire do, and decide how you can change what you’re doing without outright copying other people. Getting influence from them though is ok. The thing is, if your music isn’t as good as what other
people are already offering (or at least very close), then you instantly have an uphill struggle in terms of getting people to listen to your music. So if it’s not, keep practising!!
Don’t be in a rush to get the masses to hear your music; release it before it’s ready and you won’t get a good reaction. This will only demotivate you. Further more, it’ll stop people listening to you next time. Once you’re making good quality songs, then start trying to get ears on your music on a wider scale. Before then, simply test the music with a few fans of your genre, and focus on increasing your talent.
Give it an outstanding promotion!!
That’s right, as always it comes back to promotion and marketing. But
not just any kind of promotion however, the right
Promotion!
Technically, sharing your music on your
Facebook page with 59 fans is promotion but it will never get you anywhere and as is posting comments on music blogs saying you’ve new music out and that people should listen. Neither of those two
things will do much in terms of getting people to listen
to you however. Instead of spending all your time aiming for things
which will give you small results, you should change
your mentality and aim for those bigger wins instead.
Instead of reaching your fans one by one for the
majority of the time, start leveraging other people’s
audiences instead. Aim for those who have an established fanbase who are your ideal audience… then promote and market to them. Not to their audience initially, to them. Do what you can to work
with them and let them get you in front of their
audience. These people I’m referring to could be top music promotional sites like
www.NaijaArtiste.net, top music blogs, musicians in
your genre, channels that play videos of the quality
you’re doing, big Youtube channels, radio stations and
other media outlets.
There are two main reasons this works:
1. First of all, there is a highly targeted pre-qualified audience you’re getting in front of. You’re not just reaching out to people randomly who may or may not like the kind of music you make.
2. You’re getting recommend by people these music lovers already know and trust. If a radio station / youtube channel / blogs etc they listen to and respect says they’ll also like your music, they’re a lot more likely to listen out for and give it a go. Usually right away. If however someone randomly approached them online saying to listen to a song they’ve made, most likely that request will be ignored.
So the take away point: don’t just market your music,
market it in the right way. The two guides I linked to in this last section will get you started with that, but be sure to also look around at the other guides on this site for ideas. It can take longer to get those established platforms and musicians to work with you, but build your way up in the method I mention in this guide and it is possible.
Furthermore, it’ll give you much better results in the long run.
Conclusion
So those are the three steps you need to take to get
people to listen to your music:
1. Make really good music,
2. Put the focus on making the fans happy rather than making yourself successful, and
3. Market your music in the right way. Get recommendation from others rather than expecting people to listen to you randomly. By working like this, I guarantee you will get more people listening to your music. So what have you found works when trying to get
people to listen to your music? Let us know in the comments.

8 Easy Steps to become a Successful Music Artiste in Nigeria
The internet creates tons of new opportunities for upcoming artists. Becoming famous was never easier
and more feasible than these days. Even well-known label bosses claim that there’s no need for a record label
to make it in this game. But there’s also a downside to this:

Every kid with internet can record songs and publish them online. The internet is literally being flooded with new music every day. And the consumers and fans out there are getting overwhelmed big time. It’s self-evident
that standing out becomes more and more important.

It is hard to ignore the fact that music today has moved from pretty simple lyrics to words that do not
exist in the oxford dictionary talk more of Google.com. How do you explain the meaning of
iyanaya’s “na na na na na na….your waist” or Flavour’s “Porokoto pokoro pakoroba”?
With the type of lyrics that are being put out today by Nigerian artists, it would be pretty hard for an artist
who sang “If I could runaway, I’d run with you faraway” to compete with someone who spills
“Kukere I get money o” on the dance floor. Our years of experience in the Nigerian music industry
as music promoter, artiste managers, media publicist, Media consultants and shows organizers has given us an insight as to what sells in Nigeria. Trust me when I say I have cracked that
code as to how you can become a successful Nigerian artiste just by releasing one single! Here are the 8 proven steps you must follow religiously to become a successful artiste in Nigeria!

1) Quality Is important
Quality is probably the most important aspect of your
music. Most upcoming artists have no idea of quality:
Their rhymes are crappy, their mixing and mastering
sucks and their overall music just doesn’t sound
professional. The easiest way to stand out and make a
serious impression is to step up and handle your audio
quality. Get yourself a studio with a decent condenser
microphone, a better sound card and find someone who
will mix and master your songs at least semi-
professionally. If you sound professional, people will
think you are professional. This single step will put you
ahead of most other upcoming artists in this game.
2. Keep in shape
This is already self-explanatory. You can’t be looking
like Rick Ross and expecting your female fans to
appreciate you. In order to be able to throw off your
shirt at any given time, you will need to have the right
6packs (Please no hungry packs) but the right packs
like Iyanya, Dipp and D’banj. Now if you a female
artiste, then you need to shed off those unwanted fats
around your stomach and reserve it for your hips and
bust because this is what Nigerian men love and you
need it for your photo and video shoots.
3. Show some skin
Now Nigerians love daring performances (You can
trace this back to Fela’s days). In order to have an
engaging concert, you must be willing to show some
chest on stage like D’banj and throw your shirt into
the crowd like Iyanya.
A Disclaimer: Please do not attempt this if you do not
have a six packs and your body is only suitable for a
Michelin advertisement. (Just kidding :))
For the ladies, a little baring of the laps hurts no one.
You can contact Tiwa Savage and Emmy Nyra for a
few tips on how to bare it all and still look classy.
4. Hit the headlines (Controversy)
Denrele once said “Good publicity is good publicity.
Bad publicity is good publicity. No publicity is bad
publicity”.
Being in the news is key! Do whatever it takes to hit
the headlines! You got to be kidding me if you need
suggestions on how to achieve this. Ok, I’ll give you a
few. Have several baby mamas, have several tattoos
or date two popular celebrities, start a twitter fight by
dissing another celeb or release a terrible song,
breakup with your music label or have a groupie take
a photo of you in bed while you pretend to be asleep.
Please follow these suggestions at your own risk
because I do not endorse bad behavior. 😉

5. Get a slogan
You think Tonto Dike was dumb when she thought of
#Poko?
We have seen artistes carve a niche for themselves
with slangs that they use. Iyanya gave us “Your
waist”, Durella would “Zanga” this, Dbanj is the
custodian of “Kokolet, Labata, Lebete, Eja nla and so on” while
Tuface never fails to remind us that “Nothin dey
happen”.
You can just think of something unique and make it yours!
6. Make Yourself Official
No matter how upcoming and unknown you are, to
really stand out you have to look official. Make sure to
get that official look of the pros. If you look like a pro your
listeners will assume that you are a pro. It’s as simple as
that. Here are some tips on how to get a more
professional look: Contact a good graphic designer and
get a neat, authentic and customized logo. Make sure to
get an official website (www.yourartistname.com)
we can design a customized official website for you
Always use the same logo,
pictures, name, domain and format in all your internet
appearances. If you post YouTube videos, make sure to
use the same or a similar format for titles and
descriptions every time.
And also create official profiles on social networks for your music, i mean an official facebook fan page and twitter handle this will create a corporate
identity and give you an official look. And lastly Get a good
promotional body to potray your talent for you
7. Feature a Well-Known Artiste
Getting on a track with a well-known artist makes you
stand out like crazy. Most self-proclaimed upcoming
artists will never do that: They are simply too afraid, don’t
believe that it’s impossible and last but not least they
don’t know how it’s done. This is a huge opportunity for
you. Nothing will boost your credibility more than a
collaboration with a medium well-known artist. There’s
no doubt that this is one of the best ways to stand out.
Featuring a well- known artiste is easy, we can hook you up with an artiste of your choice, just let us know when you ready
8. The best things are not for FREE!
Dont be reluctant when it comes to spending, in the present Nigerian music industry if you can’t pay the right people I’m sorry to say your music will go nowhere, OAPs, Social Media
publicists, Radio/Satellite channels, Magazines, Top DJs, Top bloggers, music promotion companies, dont joke with the services of those people, consult them to work for you even if it requires paying them huge amounts for the publicity you need just for you to get to the top.
Use our social media/online promo plan to create all the awareness and publicity you might ever need on the internet, it is tested and trusted!
We will work for you beyond your imaginations!
We can also submit your songs to top radio stations in Lagos for maximum airplay of your songs to millions of listeners.
You need the services of Top DJs and bloggers?
Or you want to be invited to shows where you will get paid?

PREVIEW OF A CONTEST SUBMISSION

                                 A NEW NIGERIA
On the 15th of March 2055, a new movement called THE CREATIVE KID’S CLUB was formed by a group of child prodigies. The movement consisted of Dele the music genius who at the young age of seven was a two times Grammy nominee for his outstanding contribution to music production, there was also Okafor the young business mogul who made great a fortune at the age of six from his e-commerce website, finally there was Rashid the leader of the others who was thrust into fame at the age of eleven after he started a vision for empowering creative children from his father’s garage and built it into a multi million naira empire with over fifty thousand beneficiaries. According to news, his success is largely rooted in an uncanny understanding of the human psyche, a near perfect eloquence and an outstanding genius in the area of marketing.
But they had one major obstacle to this dream and ironically it came in the form of Rashid’s twin brother Azeez....
