IS CHRISTMAS A CHRISTIAN HOLIDAY?
I can guess what some of your responses are right now.
I mean it is obvious right?
Well not everyone. Recently, a lot of pundits have been circulating the notion that the concept of Christmas has its inception in Pagan ceremonies hence, the celebration itself should be considered null and void of significance.
Which is why when my younger sister asked me to help her out in a debate relating to this, I plunged into a little research and here is a tip of the iceberg that confronted my ignorant state.
I have decided to leave everything the way it was written to create that sense o debate which in my opinion is the underlying theme of this written work.

Before we delve into this debate proper, allow me to
elucidate you a little on the concept of Christmas.
The word Christmas is coined form two popular words: “Christ”
and “mass”. Every Christian knows Christ as the savior of the world who was
sent by God to redeem us from our decadent lives. (And that is absolutely
correct)
The word mass as most of us might know is used by the
Catholic Church to refer to a church service.
Christianity as we know had its inception in the Catholic
Church and before the Protestants and other denominations of the Christendom
sprouted, the practice of Christmas had already been established by the
Catholic Church.
So Christmas in short means: Christ’s service.
Christmas is that day set aside to honor the birth of the
greatest man that ever lived.
Now to the debate in proper.
I am going to base my argument on the basic questions
surrounding this debate question.
The first question which is what is Christmas has already
been treated in my introduction.
The next question we are going to be considering is: why must
we celebrate Christmas?
As obvious as it seems, many people do not actually realize
that Christmas is a birthday party. This I think is built on the
misunderstanding spurred by various practices borrowed from other religious
celebrations which happens to fall on the same day. Practices like sharing
presents around a Christmas tree, revering Santa Claus and others which were
borrowed from customs of the winter solstice have beclouded both Christians and
non-Christians from the real meaning of Christmas because I believe if the true
meaning of Christmas is known, there will be no need for this debate.
Christmas which is the day chosen as the birthday of Jesus
Christ must be celebrated just like every other birthdays on earth but beyond
that, it must be honored and made a holiday because this day is set aside in
honor of one whose sacrifice saved the world from annihilation.
When the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse become
inevitable hence the importance of the question we just answered.
If Christians and others understand that Christmas revolves
around one man and no one else, then they will have a proper knowledge and come
to a full understanding that it is a day for Christians to celebrate their lord
and savior and also realize that it is indeed a Christian holiday.
Finally, let us take a look at some historical facts:
·
The first recorded Christmas day celebration which
took place on the 25th of December was during the time of the first
Christian roman emperor: Constantine
·
Few years after that, Pope Julius 1 declared the 25th
of December as the official birthday of Christ
The question here is, if these great minds who were
Christians decided to set aside a day for the greatest man to be celebrated, is
the purpose not obvious?
My fellow debater might want to leverage on the fact that the
25th of December is also set aside for the celebration of other gods.
Some examples of which are: Saturnalia, Dies Natalis Solis Invicti, Yule,
Koleda, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and others but the subject of debate here is not if
the 25th of December is a Christian holiday. No, it is if Christmas
is a Christian holiday and I dare say from the topic of the debate that my
point is made.
So yes, Christmas is a Christian holiday because first as the
name implies: CHRIST-MASS and the purpose behind its conception, it revolves
around one man: Jesus Christ who as we all know is the one and only pater of
Christianity.

ONE SECRET THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE FOREVER AND MAKE YOU SUCCESSFUL IN YOUR DREAM
Most people have the wrong notion what the problem with our
nation is.
If you take a random survey, chances are you will get answers
like:
·
The lack of true values
·
Greed and ambition
·
The lack of dream and purpose
·
The lack of unity and love for one another
The list will be endless as you might guess but you can
almost bet that this particular one will not come up.
WHY IS THIS?
Maybe it is because most people do not pay attention to this
particular aspect of life.
It seems so obvious that it practically swirls through our faces
on a daily basis and while we see it, we pay little or no attention to it.
I know some of you might be asking in your mind: what is this
thing?
Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce to you one thing
that will definitely change your life, passion and career for good.
This thing will transform how you view life, success and how
happy or fulfilled you will be.
This elusive day to day principle that we come across every day
and take for granted is called: FOCUS
Think about this: with focus, it will be easier to define
what exactly you want from life.
You see, not everyone is meant to be the richest man in the
world as a matter of fact, not everyone is meant to be rich.
Some of us are just meant to build up a church in our
locality and transform the people of that community to the right part.
Some of us are meant to open up the first book club for children
or the first poetry open house in a local not too literary friendly area.
The essence of true fulfilment is to discover that thing that
makes you happy and be the best in that area no matter what.
Focus makes you pursue your one true goal and passion as a
broke man even when you have other options that can fetch you instant wealth
and material satisfaction.
Focus gives you the confidence to live and build your social
life around what you believe.
It gives you the will and resilience to stand by what you
believe and desire to learn as much as possible about that thing you seek to be
in life.
So to make our life meaningful and successful, we do not need
extraordinary dreams neither do we need all the material possessions the world
has to offer.
What we need is a sense of purpose, a passion to follow and a
persevering focus to do the best we can to affect our lives and those around us
with that particular area of purpose and passion.

THE MERGE OF TWO CULTURES
WHEN HISTORY NEEDS A REDEFINITION, IT ITAKES MEN AND WOMEN WITH GUTS, SELF WILL. PERSEVERANCE AND A RESILIENT ATTITUDE...
All these were part of the play that led to the final showdown on the 10th of December 2016 at the Etat event center in Ikeja.
Some of you might have decoded already what I am talking about especially if you were part of the process.
But for those of you who might have no idea whatsoever, let me introduce you to NOMMZYDEE 2016.
This is a story of two strong willed individuals who faced a span of mental, physical, cultural, parental and social challenges to redefine their love for each other and a desire to build up a life together.
The details of their meeting I cannot fully say there but I happened to be part of the budding process through active listening.
Incase you are wondering who I am, take a pick from these pictures:
If you want a clue, its right in the seams of my clothing.
BUT I DIGRESS: lets go right back to the hero and heroine in question.
EMMANUEL NONSO and ADETOLA JOHNSON (now ADETOLA EMMANUEL), finally said I do after he humbled himself before his in-laws and showed them how he plans to be an exemplary son in-law.
you think I am kidding, here is proof:
Because it takes a little humility to get to the top:
You should see the joy in the face of the groom's mother. watching her made me realize why movies depicts mother in-laws as the most joyful in these ceremonies. whether its the thought of being a grandmother or the thought of her first son becoming a man, she was beyond control in her show of joy and gaiety.
here once again is proof of my claims:
It was at this moment, watching everything unravel, that I realized the significance of what was happening, I realized that everything changes from here, I was now a member of two families and more importantly, I was now part of two cultures.
It was even more significant for the groom and the bride. They were now at the forefront of a cross breed between two different cultures who in previous cases had always had wrong opinions of themselves.
But looking at the joy before me, I saw a possibility that was courtesy of two people whose perseverance and resilience lead to this:
SO IN SHORT WORDS, CONGRATULATIONS TO TWO AMAZING PERSONS WHO FINALLY FOUND THEMSELVES IN A WORLD FILLED WITH UNCERTAINTY AND PROCEED TO WISH THEM A SUCCESSFUL MARRIED LIFE.

DIARY OF A NIGERIAN NERD
NOTA BENE: Everything you read here is raw and unedited!!!
Dear diary,
It's been ages since I shared my thoughts with you. I know.... the fault is all mine
been busy trying to catch up with the tide of being a lagosian. (if you know what I mean)
anyways, here I am: damning all rules of paragraphs, typos and punctuation just to share my deepest thoughts with you.
FEELS GOOD HUH?
what the h*** ! I am being rude
lemme introduce myself; I am Da Allosian Poet AKA the Nigerian nerd and this is a detailed journal of the exciting phases that characterizes my life.
If you are spurred, lemme get a YAY!!!....🙌🙌🙌🙌
trust me when I say you will be intrigued by what I want to say to you.
personally I feel this diary might change your life and everything you beleved in because what happened here changed my life totally.
You see, my life was just a boring and predictable walk in the park until one faithful night.
or should I say fateful?
I was lounged in the comfort of my bed dreaming of good and elusive days when I heard a sound.
you know the feeling you get in your gut when you are certain that something is wrong and how it is always heightened when that place happens to be where you are at that moment.
that was how I felt at that moment.
I could feel my will draining slowly and a deep sense of dread overcoming my conscious state.
the next thing I saw, was a very bright light and a shape gliding in the rays of the light.
I knew it wasn't my imagination because I could feel raw power emanating from the form even as it drew closer.
with each close step, I felt my consciousness drain from me and in its place was a feeling of apprehension: like one summoned to a king's court.
what happened in my unconscious state, I cannot tell.
if I could, I am sure we will be having a different conversation now but when I woke up five hours later, something strange happened to me.
I am so sorry I have to go now. Just got a call from my mum that she will be needing my help in the kitchen.
BRB...
please do not be offended, I will be right back with more details on what happened that night.
