Do you remember those days when Christmas used to be the highlight of the year?

When you used to look forward to the nice and new clothes and great food.

So what happened to those exciting years of unforgettable Christmas celebrations?

I guess we might have lost that spirit of Christmas that was once the culture amongst both the young and the old.

So how about if I tell you that I have found the secret to having the perfect Christmas this year.

Well call me Santa or a magical elf, but I have found some magical tools that you can employ towards having a magical Christmas

  3. Have a family reunion. You know one of the best ways to celebrate Christmas is being around family. sharing gifts under the Christmas tree and reminiscing about old times
  4. Go on a road trip. Yeah I know it might sounds ridiculous but this might be a great idea for young people or families with few numbers. The uncertainty involved and the adventure
  5. Rent a private lounge or book a hotel reservation and have a wild blast with your friends
  6. Most importantly, after all the fun and wilding out, do not forget the reason for the season: Jesus and pay respect to the celebrant of the day.

IS CHRISTMAS A CHRISTIAN HOLIDAY?

I can guess what some of your responses are right now.

I mean it is obvious right?

Well not everyone. Recently, a lot of pundits have been circulating the notion that the concept of Christmas has its inception in Pagan ceremonies hence, the celebration itself should be considered null and void of significance.

Which is why when my younger sister asked me to help her out in a debate relating to this, I plunged into a little research and here is a tip of the iceberg that confronted my ignorant state.

I have decided to leave everything the way it was written to create that sense o debate which in my opinion is the underlying theme of this written work.

Before we delve into this debate proper, allow me to elucidate you a little on the concept of Christmas.

The word Christmas is coined form two popular words: “Christ” and “mass”. Every Christian knows Christ as the savior of the world who was sent by God to redeem us from our decadent lives. (And that is absolutely correct)

The word mass as most of us might know is used by the Catholic Church to refer to a church service.

Christianity as we know had its inception in the Catholic Church and before the Protestants and other denominations of the Christendom sprouted, the practice of Christmas had already been established by the Catholic Church.

So Christmas in short means: Christ’s service.

Christmas is that day set aside to honor the birth of the greatest man that ever lived.

Now to the debate in proper.

I am going to base my argument on the basic questions surrounding this debate question.

The first question which is what is Christmas has already been treated in my introduction.

The next question we are going to be considering is: why must we celebrate Christmas?

As obvious as it seems, many people do not actually realize that Christmas is a birthday party. This I think is built on the misunderstanding spurred by various practices borrowed from other religious celebrations which happens to fall on the same day. Practices like sharing presents around a Christmas tree, revering Santa Claus and others which were borrowed from customs of the winter solstice have beclouded both Christians and non-Christians from the real meaning of Christmas because I believe if the true meaning of Christmas is known, there will be no need for this debate.

Christmas which is the day chosen as the birthday of Jesus Christ must be celebrated just like every other birthdays on earth but beyond that, it must be honored and made a holiday because this day is set aside in honor of one whose sacrifice saved the world from annihilation.

When the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse become inevitable hence the importance of the question we just answered.

If Christians and others understand that Christmas revolves around one man and no one else, then they will have a proper knowledge and come to a full understanding that it is a day for Christians to celebrate their lord and savior and also realize that it is indeed a Christian holiday.

Finally, let us take a look at some historical facts:

·        The first recorded Christmas day celebration which took place on the 25th of December was during the time of the first Christian roman emperor: Constantine

·        Few years after that, Pope Julius 1 declared the 25th of December as the official birthday of Christ

The question here is, if these great minds who were Christians decided to set aside a day for the greatest man to be celebrated, is the purpose not obvious?

My fellow debater might want to leverage on the fact that the 25th of December is also set aside for the celebration of other gods. Some examples of which are: Saturnalia, Dies Natalis Solis Invicti, Yule, Koleda, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and others but the subject of debate here is not if the 25th of December is a Christian holiday. No, it is if Christmas is a Christian holiday and I dare say from the topic of the debate that my point is made.

So yes, Christmas is a Christian holiday because first as the name implies: CHRIST-MASS and the purpose behind its conception, it revolves around one man: Jesus Christ who as we all know is the one and only pater of Christianity.

ONE SECRET THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE FOREVER AND MAKE YOU SUCCESSFUL IN YOUR DREAM

Most people have the wrong notion what the problem with our nation is.

If you take a random survey, chances are you will get answers like:

·        The lack of true values

·        Greed and ambition

·        The lack of dream and purpose

·        The lack of unity and love for one another

The list will be endless as you might guess but you can almost bet that this particular one will not come up.

WHY IS THIS?

Maybe it is because most people do not pay attention to this particular aspect of life.

It seems so obvious that it practically swirls through our faces on a daily basis and while we see it, we pay little or no attention to it.

I know some of you might be asking in your mind: what is this thing?

Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce to you one thing that will definitely change your life, passion and career for good.

This thing will transform how you view life, success and how happy or fulfilled you will be.

This elusive day to day principle that we come across every day and take for granted is called: FOCUS

Think about this: with focus, it will be easier to define what exactly you want from life.

You see, not everyone is meant to be the richest man in the world as a matter of fact, not everyone is meant to be rich.

Some of us are just meant to build up a church in our locality and transform the people of that community to the right part.

Some of us are meant to open up the first book club for children or the first poetry open house in a local not too literary friendly area.

The essence of true fulfilment is to discover that thing that makes you happy and be the best in that area no matter what.

Focus makes you pursue your one true goal and passion as a broke man even when you have other options that can fetch you instant wealth and material satisfaction.

Focus gives you the confidence to live and build your social life around what you believe.

It gives you the will and resilience to stand by what you believe and desire to learn as much as possible about that thing you seek to be in life.

So to make our life meaningful and successful, we do not need extraordinary dreams neither do we need all the material possessions the world has to offer.

What we need is a sense of purpose, a passion to follow and a persevering focus to do the best we can to affect our lives and those around us with that particular area of purpose and passion.

THE MERGE OF TWO CULTURES

WHEN HISTORY NEEDS A REDEFINITION, IT ITAKES MEN AND WOMEN WITH GUTS, SELF WILL. PERSEVERANCE  AND A RESILIENT ATTITUDE...

All these were part of the play that led to the final showdown on the 10th of December 2016 at the Etat event center in Ikeja.

Some of you might have decoded already what I am talking about especially if you were part of the process.

But for those of you who might have no idea whatsoever, let me introduce you to NOMMZYDEE 2016.

This is a story of two strong willed individuals who faced a span of mental, physical, cultural, parental and social challenges to redefine their love for each other and a desire to build up a life together.

The details of their meeting I cannot fully say there but I happened to be part of the budding process through active listening.

Incase you are wondering who I am, take a pick from these pictures:

If you want a clue, its right in the seams of my clothing.

BUT I DIGRESS: lets go right back to the hero and heroine in question.

EMMANUEL NONSO and ADETOLA JOHNSON (now ADETOLA EMMANUEL), finally said I do after he humbled himself before his in-laws and showed them how he plans to be an exemplary son in-law.
you think I am kidding, here is proof:

Because it takes a little humility to get to the top:

You should see the joy in the face of the groom's mother. watching her made me realize why movies depicts mother in-laws as the most joyful in these ceremonies. whether its the thought of being a grandmother or the thought of her first son becoming a man, she was beyond control in her show of joy and gaiety.

here once again is proof of my claims:

It was at this moment, watching everything unravel, that I realized the significance of what was happening, I realized that everything changes from here, I was now a member of two families and more importantly, I was now part of two cultures.

It was even more significant for the groom and the bride. They were now at the forefront of a cross breed between two different cultures who in previous cases had always had wrong opinions of themselves.

But looking at the joy before me, I saw a possibility that was courtesy of two people whose perseverance and resilience lead to this:

SO IN SHORT WORDS, CONGRATULATIONS TO TWO AMAZING PERSONS WHO FINALLY FOUND THEMSELVES IN A WORLD FILLED WITH UNCERTAINTY AND PROCEED TO WISH THEM A SUCCESSFUL MARRIED LIFE.

DIARY OF A NIGERIAN NERD

NOTA BENE: Everything you read here is raw and unedited!!!

Dear diary,

It's been ages since I shared my thoughts with you. I know.... the fault is all mine
been busy trying to catch up with the tide of being a lagosian. (if you know what I mean)

anyways, here I am: damning all rules of paragraphs, typos and punctuation just to share my deepest thoughts with you.

FEELS GOOD HUH?
what the h*** ! I am being rude
lemme introduce myself; I am Da Allosian Poet AKA the Nigerian nerd and this is a detailed journal of the exciting phases that characterizes my life.

If you are spurred, lemme get a YAY!!!....🙌🙌🙌🙌

trust me when I say you will be intrigued by what I want to say to you.

personally I feel this diary might change your life and everything you beleved in because what happened here changed my life totally.

You see, my life was just a boring and predictable walk in the park until one faithful night.

or should I say fateful?

I was lounged in the comfort of my bed dreaming of good and elusive days when I heard a sound.

you know the feeling you get in your gut when you are certain that something is wrong and how it is always heightened when that place happens to be where you are at that moment.

that was how I felt at that moment.

I could feel my will draining slowly and a deep sense of dread overcoming my conscious state.

the next thing I saw, was a very bright light and a shape gliding in the rays of the light.
I knew it wasn't my imagination because I could feel raw power emanating from the form even as it drew closer.

with each close step, I felt my consciousness drain from me and in its place was a feeling of apprehension: like one summoned to a king's court.

what happened in my unconscious state, I cannot tell.
if I could, I am sure we will be having a different conversation now but when I woke up five hours later, something strange happened to me.

I am so sorry I have to go now. Just got a call from my mum that she will be needing my help in the kitchen.
BRB...

please do not be offended, I will be right back with more details on what happened that night.

THE MYTH CALLED BLACK FRIDAY

Do  you know that long before the advent of online shopping, black Friday has been a sort of unspoken culture amongst many.

Well, it wasn't really called black Friday then, I think... but the point is that there has always been set aside a day for in the tide of local commerce when items are sold at a cheap rate to customers.

These days are usually characterized by loud and noisy trading and extremely cheap sales.

Abeg! enough of this historical gibberish.

The point I am trying to make is that everyone ought not to miss out on this exceptional opportunity to get things at a more than convenient rate.

PREDESTINATION

Good morning to you all my dear readers.
I know I have been saying this a lot but its been a while and I have missed this here: our daily chat and twaddle.
Like I said on earlier posts, I have been in a soul searching mission on how to provide you with the best information in music and literature.
Y'ALL KNOW HOW MUCH I CARE ABOUT YOU GUYS....
Any who, 😀... every once in a while I like to kid myself that I might be the next Shakespeare so I scribble my thoughts the best way I know: poetry.
Here's one for you guys. It was inspired by the theme for November on the storried monthly competition: EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON.
I hope it helps you as it has helped me.
  •
Between uncertainty and divinity,

In that famed yellow wood

Between knowledge untold

And beauty foretold

I must choose a path

Doth God prance in shadows?

Mocking our heartfelt hallows

To twitch, switch and stitch at will

Are we but for sport and thrill?

Or is there an order that all must kowtow?

Hath I the eyes to stare at divinity

I would have lain my quest

Of the dark shroud that conflicts my thoughts

But I must trust in his infallible insight

For he who made the earth spin

And the sun wing her warmth

Doth know my will and time’s mill

Here something for an afterthought: do you think that our lives are pre planned by an ethereal being and that we have been set on a path irrespective of what we do or do you think that our lives are predicated on what we do.
Share your feelings on the comment section and help us understand life better.

SANDPAPER

scratch my weary backs till it bleeds
I am worn from bending over
in your eyes are my mural's needs
a bend in the pane, a stroke of color

you tread with me tirelessly
even as I tread the yellow woodland
eyes boring into my heart's intent
each lake, each path, each high ground

I am renewed from your ruthless care
I have bled and healed over
flowers and nectars I can now dare-
wear as my soul's cover

but I fear what fate has made of you
your palms weary and torn
no longer feels the touch of dew
while a new rage in you is reborn.

100 PERCENT ASSURED WAYS OF GETTING A REAL JOB ONLINE

Yeah I know...
Before you say it, I know its been a while since we've had our routine conversation. The truth is: I have been busy researching on how to bring the best musical and literary content to you and while this endless project still goes on, I just wanted to say hi.

Of course my HI's always comes with a surprise package and this time there is promise of monetary value.

IF ONLY YOU DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO...

Well, enough dilly dallying. Here's my special package for you:

HOW TO MAKE MONEY AS A WRITER

A few years ago, being a writer was considered just a hobby unless of course you have attained the milestone of having a published book but with the advent of new businesses online, writing has transcended the mire of being just a boring hobby and has evolved into a cool professional job such that those who once mocked her patrons are now paying to learn.

This economic boom can be attributed to a surge in the need for writers in various professional reasons mostly online. Being a professional writer is now one of the few cool jobs one can have either on a freelance base, side job base or on a full time base. Some of the abounding areas of opportunities from where a writer can make his or her fortune are:

·         BLOGGING: Until recently and by recently I mean a decade and some years ago, blogging was just a hobby for either boring nerds with a fancy for the computer keyboard over the traditional pen and diary or high school and college gossip marauders with too much time and too little home works on their hands. Fast forward a few more years and you have a multi-billion dollar market with multiple income generating outlets including affiliate marketing, YouTube views, AdSense, content marketing, product reviews and a host of others. Bloggers can now conveniently make six figures and sometimes even seven figures from just playing with words, pictures and videos in the comfort of their sofa.

·          FREELANCE WRITING: This is probably the biggest financial opportunity for writers. With the recent increase in the need for quality articles, product descriptions, sales pages, online marketing, ghost writing, copywriting and other important writing related skills, the availability of jobs for writers has no limit. Online platforms like freelancer, Fiverr, Upwork, Craiglist and a host of others including LinkedIn, have also paved a way for writers who might not know the ropes in securing freelance writing jobs. These companies provide jobs for writers in exchange for a commission or a fix pay from the writers earning.

·         ONLINE WRITING CONTESTS: As ludicrous as it might sound, engaging in online writing contests is a very profitable way of generating good income on the side for writers and the great news is that there is never a shortage of writing opportunities. The question most often, is how to separate the real ones from the fakes and how to protect your creative property from being stolen. The answer to the first question is simple: RESEARCH! RESEARCH! RESEARCH! To the other question though I have no real answer than the obvious fact that success is a risk and for only those who dare to delve into it.

The list is endless and I mean that seriously. There is no way to exhaust the myriad of opportunities that abounds for writers but it would suffice to say that these three are amongst the most probable and validated options a fledging writer has to explore. Whether this is a product of success cases like Linda Ikeji, Bamidele and other notable examples, one cannot say but one thing is for sure and that is the fact that as long as the world of the internet grows, there will always be more opportunities for writers to make more money.

LAYERS OF VEILED BEAUTY How deep are the thoughts in your heart? What shade of chrome is that fire stirring within? DEDICATION TO A VERY SPECIAL PERSON

Last weekend, I met a very special person and I wrote this poem just for her.

LAYERS OF VEILED BEAUTY

How deep are the thoughts in your heart?

What shade of chrome is that fire stirring within?

You reach to the world with bold arms

Desperate for the illumination in fate’s grueling path

Each step of passion a legacy to an unquenched craving

But I have seen beyond the façade of juvenility

A soul, rich in love and flamed with rabid desires

I have reached out to hold on to that elixir

But each moment a layer unfolds over another

You in whose eyes I had a glimpse of renewal

A perfect blend of aesthetics and mercury

A fickle and transient flow of colorful emotions

A perfect harmony of flare and care

But I have seen beyond the façade of juvenility

A soul, rich in love and flamed with rabid desires

I have reached out to hold on to that elixir

But each moment a layer unfolds over another

And I have wished from the first day

To glimpse into that layered soul

And hold on in my arms

The strength behind your brilliant calm

YET ANOTHER BIOGRAPHY-culled from notablebiographies.com

Chinua Achebe Biography

Born: November 15, 1930
Ogidi, Nigeria

Nigerian novelist
Chinua Achebe is one of Nigeria's greatest novelists. His novels are written mainly for an African audience, but having been translated into more than forty languages, they have found worldwide readership.

Early life

Chinua Achebe was born on November 15, 1930, in Ogidi in Eastern Nigeria. His family belonged to the Igbo tribe, and he was the fifth of six children. Representatives of the British government that controlled Nigeria convinced his parents, Isaiah Okafor Achebe and Janet Ileogbunam, to abandon their traditional religion and follow Christianity. Achebe was brought up as a Christian, but he remained curious about the more traditional Nigerian faiths. He was educated at a government college in Umuahia, Nigeria, and graduated from the University College at Ibadan, Nigeria, in 1954.

Successful first effort

Achebe was unhappy with books about Africa written by British authors such as Joseph Conrad (1857–1924) and John Buchan (1875–1940), because he felt the descriptions of African people were inaccurate and insulting. While working for the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation he composed his first novel, Things Fall Apart (1959), the story of a traditional warrior hero who is unable to adapt to changing conditions in the early days of British rule. The book won immediate international recognition and also became the basis for a play by Biyi Bandele. Years later, in 1997, the Performance Studio Workshop of Nigeria put on a production of the play, which was then presented in the United States as part of the Kennedy Center's African Odyssey series in 1999. Achebe's next two novels, No Longer At Ease (1960) and Arrow of God (1964), were set in the past as well.
By the mid-1960s the newness of independence had died out in Nigeria, as the country faced the political problems common to many of the other states in modern Africa. The Igbo, who had played a leading role in Nigerian politics, now began to feel that the Muslim Hausa people of Northern Nigeria considered the Igbos second-class citizens. Achebe wrote A Man of the People (1966), a story about a crooked Nigerian politician. The book was published at the very moment a military takeover removed the old political leadership. This made some Northern military officers suspect that Achebe had played a role in the takeover, but there was never any evidence supporting the theory.

Political crusader

During the years when Biafra attempted to break itself off as a separate state from Nigeria (1967–70), however, Achebe served as an ambassador (representative) to Biafra. He traveled to different countries discussing the problems of his people, especially the starving and slaughtering of Igbo children. He wrote articles for newspapers and magazines about the Biafran struggle and founded the Citadel Press with Nigerian poet Christopher Okigbo. Writing a novel at this time was out of the question, he said during a 1969 interview: "I can't write a novel now; I wouldn't want to. And even if I wanted to, I couldn't. I can write poetry—something short, intense, more in keeping with my mood." Three volumes of poetry emerged during this time, as well as a collection of short stories and children's stories.
After the fall of the Republic of Biafra, Achebe continued to work at the University of Nigeria at Nsukka, and devoted time to the Heinemann Educational Books' Writers Series (which was designed to promote the careers of young African writers). In 1972 Achebe came to the United States to become an English professor at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst (he taught there again in 1987). In 1975 he joined the faculty at the University of Connecticut. He returned to the University of Nigeria in 1976. His novel Anthills of the Savanna (1987) tells the story of three boyhood friends in a West African nation and the deadly effects of the desire for power and wanting to be elected "president for life." After its release Achebe returned to the United States and teaching positions at Stanford University, Dartmouth College, and other universities.

Later years

Back in Nigeria in 1990 to celebrate his sixtieth birthday, Achebe was involved in a car accident on one of the country's dangerous roads. The accident left him paralyzed from the waist down. Doctors recommended he go back to the United States for good to receive better medical care, so he accepted a

teaching position at Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, New York. In 1999, after a nine-year absence, Achebe visited his homeland, where his native village of Ogidi honored him for his dedication to the myths and legends of his ancestors. In 2000 Achebe's non fiction book                   Home and Exile, consisting of three essays, was published by Oxford University Press.
